This Month, Bruce Reynolds of Tacoma Power will Present:

"Insights into Chinese Manufacturing and its Success"

In June and July 2004, two electrical inspectors from Tacoma Power inspected five port container cranes - onsite in Shanghai China at the Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. (ZPMC) factory. Inspectors Bruce Reynolds and Jim Hymer spent two weeks inspecting these cranes to be installed at the new Pierce County Terminal for Evergreen Shipping Company. These inspections ensured that requirements in the National Electrical Code would be met for these complex structures before they were shipped. The photographs Bruce will show are amazing.

The cranes themselves operate with 13,800 volt 3 phase power and have primary voltage distribution and transformation on the units. During these inspections, the culture of overseas manufacturing was seen up close. The presentation will provide insights into Chinese Manufacturing and its success.

Bruce Reynolds is currently the plans examiner and trainer for the Electrical Inspection program at Tacoma Power. He has 19 years of experience as an electrical inspector working for Labor and Industries (L&I) inspection program as inspector, lead inspector, plans examiner, and supervisor of the plan review program and at Tacoma Power as plans examiner and interim chief. He is a current member of IBEW Local 76 and served both as an apprentice and as a journeyman wireman through this local in Tacoma. Bruce has done extensive inspector training throughout the State of Washington while working at L&I and has been active on the Electric League's Code Committee.
