WAVE AND TIDAL ENERGY PRODUCTION IN PUGET SOUND
REGISTRATION AND SCHEDULE INFORMATION:Join us for the Electric League's Monthly Luncheon Meeting and Networking Event, Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Puget Sound Energy's Auditorium in the Conference Center Building, 355 110th Avenue NE, Bellevue, 98004. Check-in begins at 11:30 with buffet beginning at 11:45, followed by announcements and our speakers. The meeting adjourns in the vicinity of 1:00 p.m. Be sure to park on levels P5-P7 of the parking garage - parking vouchers provided.
Advance registration and payment is required, and is being accepted now. Please assist in our planning by registering early. League Members: $25 Non-Members: $30 A late fee applies for registrations received after Tuesday, June 19.
JUNE TOPIC: WAVE AND TIDAL ENERGY PRODUCTION IN PUGET SOUND FEATURING TWO PRESENTERS AND PROJECTS
Alla Weinstein, GM and Director, Finavera Renewables Ocean Energy Ltd: Developing consensus for a first-of-its-kind offshore wave energy project in the U.S. was a challenge that AquaEnergy tackled while maintaining environmental values, adaptive management techniques, and a positive approach with stakeholders and regulators. Alla Weinstein will provide an overview of the Makah Bay wave energy demonstration project in a presentation of the challenges and opportunities of the first wave demonstration project fo file a FERC license application in the U.S.
Craig Collar, Snohomish PUD Senior Manager for Energy Resource Development, will summarize the PUD's exploration of tidal energy production in Puget Sound, which is currently focused on evaluating the technical, economic, and environmental viability of the project. The PUD has received preliminary permits from FERC to study seven sites between Seattle and the San Juan Islands.
SPEAKER BIOS:
Alla Weinsteim holds a BS in electrical engineering and an MBA in international management. She has over 20 years experience in systems engineering, project management and joint ventures. Ms. Weinstein was formerly a general manager at Honeywell, where she managed product lines with revenues in excess of $50M, strategic alliances and headed joint ventures in emerging foreign markets for in-country development and production.
Craig Collar has 20 years of experience in a variety of technical/operations leadership roles including work for Kimberly-Clark Corporation, and as a U.S. Navy submarine officer.
