TOPIC:

In 2006 the historic Energy Independence Act Initiative passed in the State of Washington. While the Energy Independence Act affects utilities directly, it also affects businesses that sell or distribute products related to energy efficiency, architects and engineers who design buildings or industrial processes that are more energy efficient, and electrical engineers or contractors who have an interest in renewable energy installations including cogeneration, wind or solar. The requirements for specific utilities to acquire more conservation and renewable resources are significant and may open business opportunities for all sectors of the electrical industry.

Come hear Liz Klumpp's presentation about the rulemaking for this enacted initiative and learn what opportunities might arise for your business - as well as how you can be involved in influencing the outcome of the rulemaking.

THIS MONTH'S SPEAKER:

Liz Klumpp has worked in the Pacific Northwest energy sector for twenty years. For the past ten she has served as a senior energy policy analyst for the State of Washington Department of Trade and Economic Development. She has provided energy analysis to state and regional policy-makers in support of energy efficiency legislation, energy efficient building codes and standards, affordable low-income energy services, incentives and penalties for private utilities conservation achievements, and has served on the Board of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance - a regional conservation funding organization.

Liz has advised peer agencies on the implementation of state sustainability construction standards for schools and low-income housing. She has participated in the resource planning process for several energy utilities and led the development of energy efficiency strategies in the former Western Governors' Climate Change Initiative. Currently, she is extremely focused on developing rulemaking language for consumer-owned utilities for Initiative 937, the Energy Independence Act.
