Powerful Business, the popular one-day energy conference returned this year to the Washington State Trade and Convention Center on Thursday, May 24, 2007. The conference focused on practical strategies to improve building performance and was ideal for facility managers, engineers, contractors, or any building professional interested in cost effective energy efficiency.

Attendees chose to attend sessions from five concurrent tracks that covered operations & maintenance issues, the latest in technoogy and practices in HVAC and lighting systems, and ways to improve analysis and communication skills for effective energy project management.

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Council sponsored space for 50 Energy Efficiency Trade Ally exhibits, where attendees visited vendors and other resource organizations throughout the day to get product and service information as well as tips and ideas on energy savings projects. An end-of-day Exhibit Reception with door prizes capped off the highly successful day.

Utility sponsors, Seattle City Light; Puget Sound Energy; and Snohomish PUD had booths to answer customer questions and describe technical and financial assistance available to their customers. Powerful Business featured two plenary sessions. At the opening plenary, the Directors of energy services of the three sponsoring utilities discussed their program offerings as well as how each utility is working with their customers to implement successful efficiency projects. An after-lunch plenary featured KC Golden, Policy Director for Climate Solutions. Mr. Golden discussed the newly enacted clean energy standard, I-937, as well as the effect of that standard on the challenges to Washington State from the perspective of climate change.
